On Monday 12 April 2021 my hometown saw the reopening of non-essential retail premises and our hospitality businesses were finally allowed to welcome people back.
In the weeks leading up to the Step 2 of the Government’s roadmap, shops and businesses refreshed their window displays and prepared their premises to welcome back their customers. The streets would soon be as I remembered them prior to March 2020; bustling with life as people enjoyed evenings out with friends and family. The social contact we had taken for granted was once again reawakening, the quiet deserted streets, that had become my new normal, would soon be consigned to memory.
These images capture a unique moment in time, between the shadows of lockdown and the light at the end of that long dark tunnel, a twilight zone.
Twilight was shot, one evening a few days before the 12 April, using my Hasselblad 500CM with the film stock Cinestill 800T.
